1) A two-time Academy Award winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Hackman is a highly regarded actor. As Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in “The French Connection” (1971), he won his first Oscar. In “Unforgiven” (1992), he won his second Oscar for playing Little Bill Daggett.

2) Hackman has authored books in addition to his acting career. He demonstrated his talent outside of acting by co-writing several historical fiction novels, such as “Wake of the Perdido Star” and “Justice for None.”

3) Hackman spent four and a half years in the US Marine Corps prior to deciding to pursue acting. During his service, he was stationed in Japan and Hawaii.
